English Chicago - Meet Our Staff
cornerVenue

The first venture in River North for Adolfo Garcia, Daniel Alonso & David Mitria -- the boys behind Hubbard Inn and Barn & Company -- English became an instant classic, thanks to consistently great pub fare, a vast selection of English beers and a commitment to music, featuring some of Chicago’s top DJ’s mixing the last 40 years of British and American Pop Rock.

The visual inspiration for ENGLISH's design and overall concept was drawn from the cozy pubs of London, where interior elements can more closely resemble those found in residences rather than most restaurants and bars. Aiding this inspiration was the Landmark building in which ENGLISH is located, whose lower ceilings, intimate floor plan on three levels and main staircase make the overall venue feel very intimate. Some of ENGLISH's signature design elements include custom ironwork, tufted booth seating, Victorian wallpaper, handcrafted chandeliers and a collection of large vintage photographs.

Stop in and see why ENGLISH is one of River North's favorite spots for business lunches, after work eats, hosting private parties and events, or to throw back a couple pints while watching a football match.  ENGLISH also offers some of River North's Best Daily Specials, every day of the week!!

menu
The new Menu at English delicious twists on British fare such as Fish & Chips, Bass Ale & Aged Cheddar Dip, Fried Calamari, and White Truffle Lobster Mac N Cheese. The menu also includes fresh seasonal salads, sandwiches and angus burgers. Whether in for lunch or dinner, follow our favorite British tradition of pairing your meal with a refreshing pint. At English you can always count on one of River North's widest selections of craft beers from England, such as Hobgoblin, Monty Python Holy Grail Ale, St. Peters, Boddingtons and Scarecrow.

Music
Music is at the very heart of ENGLISH, where six nights a week, resident and special guest DJs honor the musical legacy of the last 40 years of British Rock, mixed with your favorite hits from the 80s, 90s and today.
